Sad news

This past week has been an especially tough one for me and my family. On Sunday January 18, 2009 we said our final good bye to my mother, Barbara Jean Smith, also known as BJ.

She was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer last February and decided to fight the disease head on, even despite the odds. Her chemotherapy treatment was going well and the past nine months the doctors were amazed that the tumors were shrinking and the cancer marker count was continuing to drop even close to normal levels as she continued her treatments.  Things were going so well they booked a trip to Mexico, but sadly she would never get to go.  The day they were to fly out for vacation, she was admitted to the hospital.

My Mom was full of life and enjoyed being active.  She owned her own business for 17 years before retiring early and starting new hobbies with most of her time spent showing classic cars, but she also found time for gardening, and collecting handmade German marbles and antique bottles.

Because not much is still known about Pancreatic Cancer, I’d like to do my part and will make a donation of $100 for every wedding I photograph this year in my Mother’s memory.

We also have a page set up for her here if you’d like to make a donation in her honor. We love you mom, and you will always be in our hearts and souls.

Love Steve and Larry

Melanie + Kenny 12.31.08

It’s here, the final wedding of 2008. I would also be ringing in the New Year with Melanie, Kenny and their guests!

We started off in Silverdale at the Christ the King Lutheran Church, after the ceremony it was off the reception at Tucker’s Restaurant at Gold Mountain Golf Course near Bremerton. The food was excellent and there was a lot of keep guests occupied until the countdown to midnight, including a magic show that wowed the kids as well as the adults.

As it came closer to midnight, it started to snow outside, and the staff turned on the projection TV at the last few minutes and we counted down as the fireworks starting erupting from the Space Needle.

Thanks Melanie and Kenny for a fun night, it was an honor to end the year with your celebration!

Mary Kay + Mathew 12.27.08

The wedding of Mary Kay and Mathew took place a few days after Christmas at the lovely Willows Lodge in Woodinville.  There was still quite a bit of snow in the area, but fortunately most of the roads were passable by then, and it was just raining when we arrived.

When we met up with the ladies they were just finishing the final preparations before we headed to the fireside lounge for their first look. Since it was so wet and slushy outside we decided to take all the photos indoors and with all the Christmas decorations in place, there were plenty of great spots. They had a small ceremony and only about 50 of their closest friends and family were present.

After the short ceremony it was back upstairs to sign the marriage license and then back downstairs to join their guests for the cocktail hour and reception in the main ballroom for the rest of the celebration.

Thanks Mary Kay and Mat for a fun end to the holiday weekend.
