Happy Holidays!

Here is my final post of the year, enjoy a few photos from my last two photo sessions of the year taken at Molbak’s in Woodinville.   You’ll see John and Jenna and their new addition to the family, Ellie.  Then photos of the Steve Smith Photography crew (taken by John and Jenna!). And finally Leah and Mark, who I had a session with last weekend, they wanted a photo session before Mark headed off to Afghanistan for a few months.

2009 was a challenging year for me both professionally and personally, it all started a couple of weeks into the New Year with the loss of my mother who put up a brave fight with pancreatic cancer.  Then a few months later another life changing event, although this one a bit more positive.  We got our first official mascot of Steve Smith Photography,  a young Pomeranian puppy called Simba!  As the summer progressed we noticed a significant reduction in weddings booked for the year.  But I’m glad to say I have some exciting things planned for 2010, and already looking forward to what the New Year brings.

I thank all the clients who I’ve had the pleasure of working with in 2009, and feel honored and blessed to be able to share their love story though photographs with everyone else.

From all of us at Steve Smith Photography, have a safe and happy holiday!

2010 Wedding Photography Giveaway Contest

It’s back again for the third year, here are the details of my 2010 wedding photography giveaway contest!

While we have some great locations locally for weddings, I love to travel and experience as many unique and interesting locations as possible throughout the wedding season.  The requirements are pretty simple; the wedding needs to take place at a location I have not photographed before.  Your wedding location can be anywhere in or out of Washington State, but a preference would be in the Pacific Northwest, California or Vancouver, BC regions.  The more interesting or unsusual the location, the better (such as resorts, wineries or garden locations).  Previous contest winners have had weddings taking place in Hood River, Oregon and Lopez Island, Washington.

What you’ll receive if chosen; full day of wedding coverage, engagement portrait session (if located in Western Washington) two photographers, rehearsal dinner coverage or fun editorial style day-after or trash the dress session.  In addition you’ll have online viewing of images, digital negatives, and a DVD slideshow of the best images.  A retail value of over $4000!

Ok so what’s the catch, you ask?  Just a few things to remember about this contest, it will have to be for a day that I am actually available, some 2010 dates are already booked.  Your wedding must take place in 2010. Clients are required to pay for two nights lodging and any other travel fees (billed at actual cost).

To be entered into this contest, please email me (or go to my website and fill out my contact form) your wedding date and location and why you think you should be chosen for this contest.  I’ll confirm your entry when received. Entries must be received by midnight, December 21st.

To enter the contest, send me your details here (shortcut to my contact page).

The winner will be announced on my blog on December 24th!

Christy + Tyler 10.10.09

20091010_IMG_963020091010_IMG_957620091010_IMG_938620091010_IMG_946920091010_IMG_068120091010_IMG_047820091010_IMG_0235

This is it, here is my last official post of the 2009 wedding season!

We ended another spectacular season on a day with great weather, perfect for all the outdoor photo opportunities we had planned.  I met up with the guys down at Mukilteo Beach and Lighthouse Park for some photos while the other photographer stayed with the ladies.  We  got some some great shots  and once we were done there, we were off to the historic Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Everett for some family photos and ceremony.  While the guys were waiting for the girls to arrive there was plenty of time for a card game or two with Halloween candy used for betting.

After the ceremony the couple made a fake getaway and then returned to finish the family photos.  We headed back to the park just at sunset to get a few more photos with the girls and the couple, and they were all troopers with the chilly winds that were coming off the the water.

Once we finished at the park, it was off to the Future of Flight Aviation Center for the reception.  The huge space made an interesting location for a reception, plus there was a lot too see and do as there were displays and interactive exhibits all around the space.  One of the highlights of the reception was the extensive candy table and the huge Disney themed cake.

Thanks Christy and Tyler for and end to a great season.  I wish you both the best, and a lifetime of happiness.

Julie + Olan 9.26.09

20090926_IMG_233420090926_IMG_239620090926_IMG_265720090926_IMG_269520090926_IMG_307120090926_IMG_3326

I met up with the wedding party at St. Vincent de Paul church in Federal Way for some preparation photos, first look, then we took the entire bridal party and families down to Redondo Beach for some fun photos at the waterfont, while mass was still in session. I‘m glad we went there, as the late afternoon light was amazing.  Soon after we arrived back, it was time for the ceremony with the reception following right next door!

The joy and exuberance the two of them was apparent when we first met, that they both had smiles the entire day!

Julie and Olan, it was a pleasure and honor to work with you and I wish you both the very best!
