Hillary + Greg 9.13.08

Hillary and Greg were married at the Everett Golf and Country Club where the grounds were spectacular.  The approaching driveway was lined with mature Douglas Fir trees, and I knew we would have to do some shots there before the daylight was gone.

The ceremony and reception took place indoors in the nicely appointed ballroom.  It was a great party, even the young kids took to the dance floor!

Thanks Hillary and Greg for sharing your special day with me.

Touring more Washington and Oregon wineries

[gallery]

A couple weeks ago Larry and I took off for a few days for a little wine tour and tasting with our good friends John and Jenna.  Our first stop was Maryhill Winery near Goldendale, Washington, where we got a personal tour of the winery operations with owner Vicki Leuthold and winery mascot “Potter”.  At the end of the tour it was time to sample some wines, we were all very impressed, and many of their wines exceeded our expectations, so we purchased several bottles.

Then we headed west to Hood River, Oregon where we would spend the next two nights. The next day we had a short train excursion on the Hood River Railroad where were saw tons of fruit on the pear and apple trees almost ready to pick.  After we returned back, we took our friends to The Gorge White House where the gardens still looked amazing even for September.  Then it was off to another favorite spot of ours, the Cookie Stop Bakery at Packard Orchards, where Jenna couldn’t get enough of the lemon white chocolate cookies!

The next day we had lunch at White Buffalo Wines then explored the grounds of the Columbia Gorge Hotel, which we all commented their beautiful grounds would make for a great photography workshop location (maybe something for next year??).  It was time to head home so we stopped at the Bonneville Dam where we wanted a tour of the powerhouse, but they were running every two hours that day, so we took a peek at the salmon heading up the ladders instead.  Finally, our friend John was super excited about a stopover at Fuddruckers in Portland before heading back home.  If if you’ve never been there and you like burgers (or chicken) you should go!

Ligaya and Christian’s e-session

A couple of weekends ago I met up with Ligaya and Christian at the Pike Place Market for their engagement session, they are actually getting married on October 4th back in their hometown in Arizona.

We explored several areas around the market including the infamous gum wall, then headed down a couple blocks to Harbor Steps and then to Olympic Sculpture Park where we had a fantastic sunset.

Chrystal + Scott 9.6.08

Spectacular is one word that describes the wedding of Chrystal and Scott.  I made the trip east of the mountains to Mountain Springs Lodge near the town of Leavenworth, Washington. The weather was perfect, and the location stunning.

I first met up with the ladies just finishing up the final preparations at a cabin down the road before heading back to the lodge for the couple’s first look.  The ceremony took place in an aspen grove on the property and the reception outdoors at Beaver Creek Ranch, also located on the property.

After dinner, it was time to cut the cake and I have to admit, it was one of the worst cake smashing incidents I’ve photographed, I even have several shots where you see cake pieces flying. After cleanup, we diasppeared for about 20 minutes to capture some final shots with the two of them.

Thanks guys for an amazing day, it was an honor to share in your celebration.

Mai Vi + Shawn 8.30.08

I met up with Mai Vi and Shawn at a very early 8am, for the start of what would be a 14 hour day of photography.  The traditional ceremonies can take place over several days, so with everything happening all the same day, it makes for a long day for everyone!

The celebration all started at Mai Vi’s parent’s home in South Seattle, with the traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony. Everything started out with very big bang; around 10,000 firecrackers were lit and were followed by two lion dances and then with the groom’s family offering gifts to the bride’s family.

After the ceremony, it was off to the Co Lam temple for the traditional blessing.  Then it was time for lunch, followed by portraits with the entire bridal party at the arboretum. Then it was back to the reception at The New Hong Kong Restaurant for the rest of the evening where they also began the reception with a traditional lion dance (minus the firecrackers).

Thanks Mai Vi and Shawn for keeping me hydrated and fed throughout the day, surprisingly the time went fast! You were wonderful to work with and I wish you all the best.
