May Senior Portrait Sessions

Here are a few from my sessions last month with a couple high school seniors, Kaitlin and Nick.  Both sessions took place at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma and we had to work around with crazy May weather with both sessions!  Congratulations graduates, we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Heather + Alex Engagement Session

I met up with Heather and Alex on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for their engagement photo session.  We had a couple of ideas for locations in mind, but utmatley choose the UW Campus for their session.  They will be getting married in Portland, Oregon later this August, and I am honored to be a part of their wedding day celebration.

Meet Jessica and Joe

The last week of December is not usually good for shooting outdoors, but we managed to find a day that was fairly decent for Jessica (my cousin),  and Joe’s (her boyfriend)  photo session.  It was a chilly, slightly overcast afternoon.  We visited Kubota Garden, one of my favorite locations any time of year.   Jessica is a senior at CWU, and is beginning her own venture as a wedding vendor, she has been providing flowers for her friends weddings. She does some amazing work, and I look forward to seeing more of her in the future!

Happy Holidays!

Here is my final post of the year, enjoy a few photos from my last two photo sessions of the year taken at Molbak’s in Woodinville.   You’ll see John and Jenna and their new addition to the family, Ellie.  Then photos of the Steve Smith Photography crew (taken by John and Jenna!). And finally Leah and Mark, who I had a session with last weekend, they wanted a photo session before Mark headed off to Afghanistan for a few months.

2009 was a challenging year for me both professionally and personally, it all started a couple of weeks into the New Year with the loss of my mother who put up a brave fight with pancreatic cancer.  Then a few months later another life changing event, although this one a bit more positive.  We got our first official mascot of Steve Smith Photography,  a young Pomeranian puppy called Simba!  As the summer progressed we noticed a significant reduction in weddings booked for the year.  But I’m glad to say I have some exciting things planned for 2010, and already looking forward to what the New Year brings.

I thank all the clients who I’ve had the pleasure of working with in 2009, and feel honored and blessed to be able to share their love story though photographs with everyone else.

From all of us at Steve Smith Photography, have a safe and happy holiday!

Delayna and Nathan – proposal, engagement and day after sessions!

[gallery]

It was a few weeks ago that we rented a vacation home near the town of Forks, Washington.  Twilight fans anyone? It’s a long drive so we stayed for two days and invited a couple of photography friends and our favorite couple we worked with at OSPWest earlier this year.  We spent about a day and half at a few different locations nearby.  We were about 15 minutes from Rialto Beach which was our first shooting location.   Delayna had borrowed a few wedding dresses from friends, so we had lots of options starting with a day after photoshoot.  A day after session is simply that; a session that usually takes place after the wedding, where we can get creative and don’t have the usual time limits that we have on the actual wedding day.  Plus the dress is usually dirty by then, so no worries if it happens to get dirtier.

We spent about an hour there at the beach as the sun slipped behind the clouds. The next afternoon we spent some time around the property by the house, which includes some river waterfrontage, a large garage/shed, and a large wide open field leading to the river.  The weathered wood of the garage made for a really nice backdrop especially in black in white.

We took a little break, had them change into some regular clothes and then headed down to one of my favorite Washington beaches, Second Beach. We were photographing them as if they were doing an engagement session, but they weren’t actually engaged…YET.   Nathan tells me he wanted to propose to her while we were walking aroud, so we waited for the perfect moment and location plan for him.  As the sun was beginning to set, we told Nathan to pull out the fake engagement ring Delyana brought to do a mock proposal.  Cameras ready… Nathan then pulls out the real ring, Delayna was perfectly caught off guard, mission accomplished!

Congratulations Delayna and Nathan on your engagement!  We thank you for making the trip out to be our models, and are so happy we could capture and be a part your proposal.
