Steve Smith Photography | Seattle wedding and portrait photographer bio picture

Welcome to the Steve Smith Photography blog!

I'm a photojournalist, a photographer that tells a story using photographs, as it happens, unscripted and unobtrusive. My specialty is photographing weddings, senior and family portraits.

Please take a look at my previous work; I’ve been blogging since 2006, so there is a lot to see here. If you are looking for something specific, please use the search feature in the upper right.

Thanks for visiting and have fun!

It’s not many times that I get to be a second shooter, but it’s always a welcome opportunity.  I met up with the guys at Pickering Barn in Issauah.  This location would be perfect fit for this wedding as it was a country/western theme.  The guys all had cowboy hats and boots with their tuxedo’s.  After working with the guys some I then helped by gathering people for portraits (we had a 3 page list, so that took some time) .  After we finished the photos,  it was time for the outdoor ceremony at the gazebo.  Famous Dave’s provided the BBQ buffet and once the reception started, the briday party kicked things off with the boot scooting boogie and you can only image where it went from there.  It was great working with you again Brooke.

Ashley + Danny 6.12.09

This sunny and warm Friday afternoon I met the ladies at the Larkspur Landing hotel for some final preparation shots before heading to Gene Coulon Park for the first look and family photos.   The weather was spectacular and the park is always a great location for photos.  Then it was off to the Renton Community Center for the ceremony and reception. After the ceremony we went down to the river behind the community center to capture a few more shots of the couple in the last bit of good light.   It was fun working with Ashley and Danny and I wish them all the best.

Morgan and Thomas’ day after session

A few days after their wedding I met Morgan and Thomas back at Snoqualmie Falls for a day after session, which we did in place of their engagement session. A day after session can be many things, mainly it gives the couple and photographer a chance to do something that just isn’t possible on the wedding day.  There is no pressure, and couples can just have fun.  Early on Memorial Day we took the short hike down to the base of the falls where they changed back into their wedding attire and we spend about an hour scrambling arond the base of the falls even with Morgan not feeling all that well.

Keep a day after session in mind when thinking about your photography, I’ve never had anyone regret doing it, and and don’t worry the dress can be cleaned!

Carley and Jordan got married at the beautiful Willows Lodge in Woodinville, the garden setting was just perfect for their wedding.  Shortly after we arrived we arranged for their first look by the wishing well and then family photos.  After the ceremony we took them around the property for their sneak away moment, as the light was perfect, one of the guests at the wedding even offered is red camaro for a few of the shots.

It was wonderful working with you both, and wish you all the best!

Morgan + Thomas 5.23.09

The last few weeks have provided us with great weather, and Morgan and Thomas wedding day was no exception.  The location was the spectacular Salish Lodge and Spa in Snoqualmie.  The ceremony was held near the top the falls on the terrace.  It was great day that ended with a beautiful sunset.

A few days later, we met up with the couple again for a day after session down at the base of the falls so look for those photos in the coming week!  We wish them both the best, and it as a pleasure working with them and their family.

June 25, 2009 - 11:17 am Morgan - We just loved Steve!! He has a great personality and really listened to what we had to say. He also was very detailed so going into the wedding I was very confident that he was going to get exactly what I wanted. Steve and Larry (his assistant) are a great team and they didn’t charge us extra to have a second photographer at the wedding. We got some absolutely stunning pictures from our wedding and I would defiantly recommend Steve for anyone seeking a qualified and reliable photographer. Thanks again Steve and Larry!
